SO SLEEPY
" Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived."   ~Hellen Keller
Heaven Scent
When discussing my favorite scents here at Cicely's Holistic Beauty, there was a varied range of answers. For some of us they're reminiscent of a particular season, the smell of coconuts conjures images of summer holidays, freshly cut grass signifies spring is on it's way and cinnamon equals thoughts of a festive season with loved ones. For others, particular scents have such poignant connotations that they return them to a certain memory or person; honey suckle instantly carries someone off to country side dog walks with their mum and lavender transports someone else to a hug with their grandmother. Although all of our answers were very different, they all have one thing in common, emotion. Scent, more than most of our other senses, has the ability to make us feel a certain way or transport us back to a particular memory.
So, why can scent have such an emotional mood-enhancing impact on us? Well, and this is the more technical bit, it's most likely due to our brain's anatomy. Scents are initially processed by the olfactory bulb, which runs from the nose to the bottom of the brain, directly connecting to the amygdala and hippocampus, two areas of the brain strongly involved in emotion and memory. Visual, auditory (sound) and tactile (touch) information don't pass through these areas of the brain, which might be why scent in particular triggers emotions, memories and change in mood.
In the build -up to party season, catching our nightly eight hours of beauty sleep can seem like an impossible mission-dark circles and a smoky eye are not the pairing that we imagined under the mistletoe this year! However, your so sleepy temple and pillow collection provides the alternative festive couple we've all been dreaming of. Each contain a potent blend of sleep-inducing essential oils, both the pillow mist and temple balm work in harmony to make drifting off that bit easier. One of these essential oils in particular has been associated with relaxation and sleep therapy for centuries, originating in folk medicine and still used prevalenty today. In more recent research, it's been shown that lavender used in aromatherapy actually interacts with the neurotransmitter GABA in our body to help quiet the brain and nervous system activity, reducing agitation and restlessness and helping us to feel more relaxed.
Therefore, it would seem the scent of lavender is not to be underestimated when it comes to beauty sleep! Treat yourself for an aromatherapy massage with the heavenly scent & touch.

I have to share my beauty secret sun drop to you, this is available at Cicely's Holistic Beauty.
